About Åsa Jomård

Welcome to my world of wonder, curiosity, and endless possibility.

I grew up among the forests and lakes of Sweden, where my love for reading, music, animals, and the rhythms of nature first took root. There, imagination was not a luxury, it was the language of daily life. Books were my portals, gardens my playground, and every moment a chance to ask, “What if?”

Years later, I found myself on the other side of the world in Australia, expanding my perspectives under the magnificent southern skies and fascinating wildlife. Nothing will ever beat watching a kangaroo jumping by, or a koala in the background and cute little tree frogs on the glass doors. Vibrant large butterflies and waking up to the sounds of laughing kookaburras. Today, I call the United Kingdom home, a place that has deepened my love for poetic dreaming!

One of the most magical chapters of my journey unfolded in Oxford. There, I spent months working on my thesis among the dreaming spires, soaking in the centuries of thought and imagination that echo through its libraries and cobblestone streets. My research, Possible Solutions to Possible Problems, focused on cognitive development in children, a topic that continues to inspire every step I take.

I’m passionate about children’s rights, and one of my most unforgettable experiences was a summer internship at the United Nations in New York. It affirmed my belief in the power of young minds and their right to be heard, to play, and to wonder.

Creativity & Play

At the heart of my work is a simple but powerful belief:

Creativity and imagination are not extras, they are essentials.

Whether I’m writing, gardening, designing a play session, or crafting a lesson, I always begin with a rich mixture of:

  • a handful of curiosity
  • a pinch of fun
  • a bucket of imagination
  • a drop of wonder
  • a glass of magic
  • and an ocean of ideas

Stir it gently… and you get a perfectly magical playtime, where learning unfolds naturally, and ideas are free to blossom.

Thinking Differently

I’ve spent years developing creative thinking tools that help adults feel more confident exploring unconventional solutions in everyday life. I’ve also taught children how to use these tools to solve problems, both in academic settings and in play.

One of my great passions is the environment, and I’m especially drawn to biomimicry, the idea of learning from nature’s designs to inspire innovation. I’ve written learning materials about biomimicry for children and published articles in magazines on this exciting intersection of creativity and science. In 2015, I completed a course in Biomimicry: A Sustainable Design Methodology at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Where You Can Find Me

I’m blogging about creativity at Thinkdive – Sparking Children’s Thinkibility, where I explore writing, maths and art.

I was co-blogging at Thinkibility (part of this content will be moved to Substack), where we explored ideas around thinking, creativity, innovation, and design. It’s a space where pondering is encouraged, and nothing is too small or too wild to wonder about. You
